Korea 2008 - 2009

A beer truck in Itaewon, near the Yongsan post.

PMO office at MURO (Ministry of National Defense and USFK Relocation Office).

Interesting name for a clothes store in Itaewon.

Back street shops of Itaewon.

This is the tallest building in Seoul (and Korea).  It stands 63 floors and is along the Han River.

A side ally off of Itaewon Blvd.

This is Lisa and I at the Hartel House for Christmas Eve.  This used to be the General's Mess but is now open to everyone.  We were the first ones there so that was nice... :-)

Lots of wires...

Here's the whole team at the Hard Rock Cafe in Itaewon.

Yongsan traffic guard

Street behind USAG-Yongsan (United States Army Garrison)

Seoul at Sunrise

The Seoul Tower - the pictures taken from Seoul Tower are at the top of the platform but at the base of the needle.

The old part of the city couple with the new in the background.

The pavilion at Seoul Tower.

This is the Han River at night just after the boat tour.

This is the same picture as the one to the right but at night time.  The yellow lights above (near the skyline) mark the Han River.  I wanted night pictures from the tower itself but it was enclosed and the pictures I took shooting through the window weren't that great.

Seoul from Seoul Tower - as you can see, it's a smoggy day.  In the far background you can see the Han River and the 63 story largest building in Korea.

Changing of the temple guard.

Changing of the temple guard - continued.

Sunset along the Han River.

This is Lisa at Camp just before going to the JSA (Joint Security Area) in Panmunjom.  The JSA is the area controlled by both North and South Korea.

This is a North Korean soldier at the DMZ watching me take pictures of him watching me... :-)

The blue building to the left (T-2 (T stands for temporary) is the conference room where the UN and North Korean meetings are held.  Midway between the front and rear of the building you can see a concrete line between the two buildings (blue buildings are UN).  This is the dividing line between North and South Korea.  Notice the South Korean soldier facing towards the North with half his body covered.  This is to reduce exposure should the North fire (has happened in the past).  All of the South Korean soldiers are black belts in TaeKwonDo.

This is one of the two temples Lisa visited in Seoul while I was sick.

This is another picture of the temple.

These Buddha are from the 2d temple Lisa visited in Seoul.
