This is the Grand Canyon from my July 2010 vacation trip.  Lots of windy-twisty roads and loads of fun! :-)

This web site contains primarily motorcycle pictures and pictures of our land (mostly motorcycle pictures though).  I have some useful links to military and motorcycles web sites.  I am starting to include other pictures since I'm no longer riding.

The red Harley Electra-Glide Classic on this page was my second Harley, it died in Oakley, Kansas in 2002.  My first Harley was a 1987 Electra-Glide Sport.  Up until 1530 hours, August 27, 2007, I rode a 2002 Harley Road Glide. Pictures of all three Harley's are at www.docharley.com/photo_motorcycle.htm.

Brief history: My name is Nick Shaw.   In 36 1/2 years, I've ridden a little over 700,000 miles on three continents (Europe (Germany), North America, and Southeast Asia (Korea)).   I rode all year (except when it was snowing (except when I was caught in it...)).  I've owned a Kawasaki, a Suzuki, 2 Hondas, and 3 Yamahas before going to Harley.  The '02 Road Glide had 95,500 miles on it when it went down due to mechanical failure in August 2007.  Following that accident I decided to call it quits.  That was a hard decision but I decided I'd had enough concussions. :-)

I retired from the Army as a Major in 1992.  I was in the Signal Corps, the Air Defense Artillery and the Army Science Corps (which doesn't exist anymore).  I served 22 years.  I have a Doctorate in Computer Science.  My hobbies are computer games and photography (my major hobby was my bike).  My wife and I live on 60 acres in Elbert, Colorado with two dogs (Bubba and Wiggles) and a cat (Bijou).  The name of my Harley Road Glide was MP3 (no, not music player - "money pit 3" as all my Harley's seemed to have cost a lot in upgrades, etc.).   I've replaced riding with my Mazda MX-5 sports car which Lisa is starting to call MP-4.

My son, Jimmy, an Army Major, was a company commander with the 82d Airborne Division (HHC, 2-325 AIR), Ft. Bragg, NC.  Jimmy was in Iraq on his first tour from February 2003 - February 2004.  He returned to Baghdad in early December 2004 (another Christmas in Iraq) to support the Iraqi elections and returned from Iraq in March 2005.  Jimmy's Change-of-Command was May 2005.  Jimmy finished a tour at the NTC (National Training Center) in CA in 7/07.  As the first part of becoming a FAO (Foreign Affairs Officer) with ultimate assignment in Paris, France, Jimmy attended the DLI (Defense Language Institute) in Monterey, CA for nine months.  Jimmy returned from Paris, France in August 2009 and is getting his Masters at Georgetown in Virginia.  He's has been in the Army for sixteen years.  He rode a Yamaha sport tourer, FJR1300, that he bought while stationed in Germany but it was stolen just before leaving Paris.  Jimmy was married on June 25, 2006 in Calgary, Canada to Valerie Elizabeth Tuck.  Valerie's a NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) nurse (although mostly she's now a stay-at-home-mom). She's originally from Airdrie, Alberta, Canada and went to college at Trinity College, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.  Jimmy and Valerie had their first child, Charles, on December 25, 2007 and Katherine was born on November 26, 2009.

My daughter, Deanna, was a senior market analyst with JP Morgan Chase Bank in Delaware; she was a manager in the Business Strategy unit.   She used to be in New York city and work on Wall Street but with the merger with Bank One, she chose to relocate to the Delaware office. She didn't want to live in Delaware so she lived in Philadelphia and commuted.  In thinking about her future, Deanna decided to go back to college and get a degree in marketing.  To that end, she started college with the University of Phoenix.  She is currently a manager at the Gazette Telegraph in Colorado Springs.  For a year, she lived in the guest house but has moved into her own place in the downtown Colorado Springs area (we were just too far out in the sticks) but does come to visit often.  She expects to graduate next January.  She was the first person to actually use the new deck designed by my father-in-law Ziggy.

My wife, Lisa, runs her own digitizing company (Bubbles Menagerie, INC.) and provides sole technical support for Buzz Tools, INC.  She's also an on-the-road teacher and has made several popular CD tutorials.  The demand for her talents continues to grow and as a result she's away from home more often.  Her travels have taken her all around the U.S., on cruises, and twice to Australia (2007 and 2009).  In March 2005 she taught to four sold out classes, two of the classes held up to 250 people and the other two up to 125.  It must be nice to be a headliner... You can see her work at www.sew-bubbles.com.  With my traveling and hers, it's always a challenge to have one of us home to watch the children (dogs and cat).  For the Run For The Wall (2005), she embroidered several shirts and my laundry bag for me.  You can see them at http://www.docharley.com/photo_rftw_2005.htm.  In 2007, I was supposed to join Lisa in Australia but with the accident in late August I wasn't able to make travel so Lisa went on her own.
