Stay Away from Fantasy Cycles!

Located on Boulder Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO

For anyone either living in or passing through (if you're passing through you're really screwed...) Colorado Springs, STAY AWAY from Fantasy Cycles!

As you know, I ride 30-35K a year and have performed three top-ends on my two bikes in the past six years.  Well, as you may also know, we're building a new home and I wasn't able to do the top-end this year because of the dust in the barn.  So I took my bike into Fantasy Cycles.  Well... tomorrow is 6 weeks and I still don't have my bike back.  Now, in that time they should have done a top- and bottom-end as well as repair the motor mounts.

Now when I do my own top-ends it takes me about 8 hours to strip the motor.  This includes removing the saddlebags, pipes, passenger floorboards and gas tank, dropping the oils, removing the spark plugs and stripping the engine according to the repair manual.  For the top-end, it takes 2 days for the shop (I use the same shop that Fantasy uses - RTK) to prepare the cylinders and 2-3 days (concurrent) for Harley to prepare the heads.  Throw in a day to put the bike together and you have a week.  Now that's me and I'm not a very good mechanic.  Fantasy Cycles does their own machine work on the heads.

According to my brother-in-law who is a mechanic, throw in another week for the lower-end and another week for parts to get there.  Total time = 3 weeks.  And that's what it would take me!  Fantasy's folks are supposed to be competent.  After 5 weeks, the top- and bottom-ends were still lying on a bench and the pistons hadn't even been put in yet.  Kenny, the owner, estimated 1.5 days to put the top-end back together.

So, if you want your bike back sometime during your lifetime - don't take your ride to Fantasy.  Now, if you want to drop it off in early Fall and maybe pick it up in late Spring then...

As for me, I'll NEVER AGAIN go back to Fantasy Cycles.  BTW - I've heard of other complaints about this no-go shop although they're different from mine.

Live to Ride,
Ride to Live

(if you don't go to Fantasy Cycles...)
